Chronic Pain: Because of the total body approach, patients often find relief where other therapies have failed. The cause of the pain may be elsewhere in the body. Treating the entire body, using the mind to assist, allows me to treat the cause of the problem and not the symptoms.
Orthopaedics: I treat many orthopaedic problems including post operative care and sports related injuries.
Incontinence: Often times the dysfunction of the bowel and bladder is secondary to the tightness in the fascial system surrounding the bowel and bladder. After the connective tissue is released back to its normal consistency, exercises to strengthen the muscles are more benefical; sometimes, not necessary.
Pelvic Pain: Scarring is often the cause of pelvic pain. This includes appendectomy, hysterectomy, C-section, episiotomy, vasectomy and hernia scars. Myofasical release works to soften these scars and allow the pelvis to re-align and function pain free.
Digestive Problems: The problems associated with digesting include reflux, stomach pain, poor digestion and inability to eat more than small amounts. The stomach area can be tight and twisted by the fascial system. As this area loosens up, the stomach is able to fill normally and digest without difficulties. I find this to be true in both children and adults.
Back and Neck Pain: Patients often respond poorly to therapy for back and neck pain or may report only temporary benefit from physical therapy or occupational therapy. This is because the cause of the pain may be far away from the symptoms. Many neck patients or back patients have scarring or tightness in the pelvic area. This pulls through the fascial system causing neck or back pain. Treating the symptoms will give only temporary relief or may actually aggravate the condition.
Headaches: I find that most headache patients have the origin of tightness in the pelvis. This tightness actually pulls the head toward the pelvis. As the pelvis is freed up and re-aligned, the head is able to return to its normal position and muscle tension and pain is reduced.
Plantar Fasciitis: Like headaches, foot problems may also have their origin in the pelvis/back/hip area. As this area tightens, it pulls down through the fasical system into the feet. The pain is in the moving part (the feet) with the cause being further up the line, in the pelvis/back/hips.
Carpal Tunnel: As with the feet, the wrists are often the moving part with the tightness being in the chest/neck/head/upper back area. Many carpal tunnel symptoms return post operatively as the wrist is not the cause. Opening up the tightness in the chest/neck/head/upper back will often times help the symptoms to subside, thereby avoiding surgery or altering poor results from surgery.
TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint): The joint between the temporal bone and mandible (jaw) is the only joint in the body that works in conjunction with the joint on the opposite side. These must be balanced in the jaw to function normally. If the pelvis is not level due to a leg length difference or tightness in the muscles and fascia, the jaw cannot function normally. This will lead to clicking and pain. The total body approach is vital to TMJ treatment.
Sports Related Injuries: I treat many acute and/or chronic repetitive injuries such as tennis or golf elbow, groin pull, ankle sprain, shoulder injury, lower back pain, shin splints, ankle tendonitis or knee injury.
